Student Businesses
One of the major projects last term for the Experiential Program involved students working in groups to run a business. Students ‘borrowed’ money from the school to get started, and were aiming to raise money for a charity of their choice. They had to create a detailed business plan, make profit/loss projections, assign specific roles to each member of their group, and run the business on an allocated day at school.
Unfortunately, as a whole group, they did not make an overall profit. But some of the individual groups did do very well, and many valuable lessons were learned. The current group of students this term can now learn from the previous mistakes (such as spending too much on set up costs) and hopefully will be able to make a donation to their charity of choice, the RSPCA.
It was great to see a number of staff involved - both as customers, and as targets. Throwing a pie at a teacher seemed to be quite a popular activity - just as well the staff are good sports! ‘Getting Dunked’ Video

What’s blogging all about anyway?

I am aware that many people involved with this project - staff, students and parents, are very new to the concept of blogging. This great video explains it in simple clear way. Common Craft have produced several videos explaining various web 2.o tools. They are all worth checking out.
Just Getting Started…
